The most important thing we can do for our babies is offer them the finest of gifts, our breast milk. So many of us would never think twice about not breastfeeding but as we know, there are many woman who have chosen not to either because they were never educated about the importance of breastfeeding or they simple cannot for various reasons. If this is the case, you can always ask your local Leche League about woman in the area who may be able to pump for you. A few of us woman in Hawaii did this for a teenage girl who left her newborn with her Tutu (Grandmother in Hawaiian). Many indigenous cultures share the breast with other children and feed for Mamas who are not able to produce. Just another One of the beauties of living in Community!
Reading some of the posts about the yoga mama photo, I was amazed by how many were actually offended upon seeing the photo. I wanted to put together a small collage of inspiring woman throughout the world that are offering the breast in many shapes and forms. We are so dysfunctional here in America when it comes to sexuality, nudity, and even public breastfeeding!! We need some serious sexual healing.
Thank you to all of the Amazing And Powerful woman out there who have allowed themselves the gift of Breastfeeding. The bonding that takes place during this sacred time is truly unexplainable.

⟠ Since I love to travel I started looking for the perfect light weight box to hold my jewelry. About a year ago I decided to make my own as I couldn't quite find what I was looking for. I designed this sweet little box and have been oh so happy with it! Holds the jewelry in place and never tangles. A few friends have asked me to make them one as well so I decided to do a small batch and number each box as I am about to start my travels again and wont be able to make these from the road!

Living on Zero One community we made raw Pizzas quite often. I have been missing them like crazy. I just bought my Mama an Excalibur Dehydrator so I thought it would be the perfect reward for her after coming off our cleanse. It turned out amazing!!!

Buckwheat crust:
4 cups soaked buckwheat (about 2 cups dried)
2 2/3 cups sunflower seeds, soaked
4 cups zucchini, peeled and roughly chopped
3/4 - 1 cup ground flax
1 1/4 cups water
1/4 cup + 1 tbs olive oil
1 tbs + 2 tsp Italian herbs
1 tbs + 1 tsp crushed garlic
1 tbs sea salt

Blend all ingredients in a food processor until smooth. Spread batter about 1/4 " thick on 3 3/4 dehydrator trays covered with teflex sheets. Score into 9 squares per tray. Dehydrate at 125 for 2-3 hours, then flip onto mesh and turn the temperature down to 110. Dehydrate until dry.

Cheese:

1 Cup Raw Macadamia nuts
1/2 Cup Raw Cashews
1/4 Cup Raw Pine nuts
1/3 Cup Fresh Squeezed Lemon juice
1 Clove Garlic, minced
3 Tbls Nutritional Yeast
1 Tsp Himalayan Salt (to taste)
1 Tsp Cold Pressed Olive Oil (just a drizzle)

Soak 3/4 cup of the macadamia nuts and all of the cashews together in approximately 3 cups fresh, filtered water for 20 minutes. Drain and rinse. In a food processor, chop the remaining 1/4 cup of dry macadamia nuts and all of the pine nuts into a fine meal. Set this aside.

Chop the soaked macadamia nuts and cashews into a fine meal and add the lemon juice, garlic and drizzle of olive oil and blend until smooth. Add a few tablespoons of filtered water to aid in blending smooth if needed. You’ll want to get this mixture as smooth as possible while keeping it fairly thick. Add the dry macadamia and pinenut mixture, along with the nutritional yeast and blend until mixed well. Season with salt to taste.

NOTE: This makes enough cheese for one pizza. If you plan on making two full sized pizzas I recommend doubling the above recipe.

Sauce:

1 Cup Sun-dried Tomatoes
6 Roma Tomatoes or 4 Large Tomatoes
1 Clove Garlic
1/4 Cup Red Onion, finely minced
1 Cup Fresh Basil Leaves
1/2 Cup Fresh Italian Parsley Leaves
Sprig of Fresh Rosemary
2 Tbls Olive Oil
1 Tbls Raw Honey
1 Tsp Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice
1-2 Tsp Himalayan Sea Salt (to taste)
1/2 Tsp Chipotle or Cayenne Pepper (optional)

Soak the sun-dried tomatoes in approximately 1 Cup fresh water for 10-15 minutes or until soft. Drain and rinse, then set aside. Cut the tops off of the fresh tomatoes, cut in half, then scoop out the seeds. Dice the tomatoes and set aside.

In a food processor finely chop the garlic, red onion and herbs. Add the sun-dried tomatoes, olive oil, honey, and lemon juice and pulse to chop leaving the mixture with some texture. Do not over blend.

In a bowl fold together the sun-dried tomato mixture with the diced tomatoes. Season with Himalayan sea salt and the chipotle or cayenne if desired.

** add any toppings of choice!

Clear minds, clean bodies in 2012!

Several times a year, Agustin and I do a little cleanse just as a basic body tune up. We have been mostly eating raw for about 4 years now. During my pregnancy with Naia I definitely had some pizza and burritos though. My body was calling out! Its wild what we crave during these sacred times. I gained only 20 pound with my pregnancy and it all came off within a week however, my body shifted and hasn't felt the same since. I am with Naia 23 out of 24 hours and it wasn't until recently that i started to take an hour here or there for Amy time. Last week i went for a run with my Papa and that really sparked the inner flame. I begin to love myself again in ways I hadn't since giving birth. Its understandable as this is so common with mamas. We love these little ones so much, all our love just pours out to them! Ohhh it feels so good!

With the New Year here, we figured it was the perfect time to begin our first cleanse of 2012. My mom even joined us! Usually we stick to juice cleanses along with lots of enemas, massage and saunas. Since i am still breast feeding Naia, i decided to just do a simple 6 day routine...

Day 1: Starts with a salt water flush. We drink about 2 liters of water each with 2 tsps of sea salt. This really gets things moving. Several juices throughout the day are followed with lots of water in between. At night i like to drink some sort of detox or herbal laxative tea before bed.
Day 2: Lots of water upon awakening then followed by a coffee enema. Several juices throughout the day. Night time herbal tea blend in the evening.
Day 3: Lots of water upon awakening followed by a coffee enema. Since this was mid point we decided to switch it up and do the master cleanse for a day. This consists of Lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne. We also got a colonic in the afternoon which is always amazing!! Night time herbal tea blend in the evening.
DAY 4: Lots of water upon awakening. morning enema to start off the day. Back to juicing and herbal tea at night. We also treated ourselves to an hour massage at the spa in town. Great for releasing those toxins.
Day 5: Last day of cleansing. Same routine as day 2
Day 6: One final enema except for this time we did a chlorella enema which helps to pull out the toxins. Fresh orange juice as our first morning drink. A while later we added some soaked figs and water to the vitamix for a simple smoothie snack. Late afternoon agustin made us some kind of green drink. I didn't ask what was in it but just enjoyed its savory taste. For dinner i made us a miso soup with a mixture of seaweeds. Yum! Such a beautiful feeling of gratitude in that first real meal!
My weight started off at 128 and when i weighed in on the 6th day i was at 118. Ten pounds gone and feeling so alive and vital in every way. Our bodies are our temples. Its crucial that they are loved up in every way possible!!!

Juices usually consist of combinations including beets, lemons, ginger, carrots, cucumbers, green apples, kale, and celery.

Naia and I in Midwifery Today!!

What an honor!!! Naia and I were featured in the last issue of Mid Wifery today! I had no idea that when I posted this photo to my blog back in April (see original post here) that it would soon go viral. I have read some prettty amazing quotes that people have posted about the photo. The best were people thinking i was actually hanging from the tree!? I did love the "milk bong" quotes along with "good till the last drop" and "Mothers.... The ultimate multitaskers". The truth is we were living on a small community in Hawaii where our land was clothing optional and yoga was/is a necessity! I was just doin’ my daily flow when the little sweet pea came to sneak a suckle. Papa had her out in the grass with him and she just couldn’t resist! This happens all the time by the way. When a breast is out and babies around, they are going to try and get it anyway they can!
Here is a little story that i shared about Naia's home water birth for the article along with the photo in black and white. Thank you to all those who laughed and loved for the two of us. xx

   Ohhh, what a powerful Equinox here in Laguna Beach. Agustin and I have been staying at our close brothers families home these last few days. A dreamy hand built wooden house called "The Ark" nestled right along the sand and sea. Its been a little retreat space for us these last few months. Feels good to see Naia naked running around along the shore. I am sure she is missing Kauai just as much as we are! While along the coast, we also took a little overnight boat sail to Catalina Island. I have always loved magical Avalon! Mermaids in every corner!

On this Winter Solstice 2011 we return to the light. Agustin and I made a sweet little offering ceremony on the beach this afternoon. We try to make one every few months.... (See post here).  We gathered some food, prayers and tokens of love for our Mama and offered it with our hearts filled with gratitude in every way. We finished the ceremony just as the sun was setting and in the distance a pod of dolphins appeared. A confirmation from the Mama that our gifts were received and everything is divine.

Daughter of the Sun Leather Necklaces

I joined Etsy in 2006, the first year it started and was mostly selling my Cresent leather necklaces. I would take them to shows and festivals across California, setting up on a blanket or outside the venue. They were great music pieces as the bells made beautiful sounds and it was easy to play along or create your own little jam!

When i begin traveling 4 years ago i left all of my leather tools behind. They were much to heavy to take with and my hands were asking for a break. I had been making jewelry nonstop at that point. A self made little leather factory, right inside my eagle rock teepee.

Since bein' on the gypsy train, i have continuously received emails asking if i will have more necklaces available in the future. It been a long time coming and with a new child in my life, i never thought i would have time to make these necklaces again. Being back home with my family for the holidays has really allowed me to revisit my past. What a blessing it has been as Grandma has been watching Naia while i get back to my work table. She of course has been helping out a little too!

I thought it would be fun if i were to show the progress that goes into making the necklaces. Its actually a lot of work and takes me several days just to make a small batch. I am grateful to have these little beauties finished and even more grateful to share and offer them again with some new designs as well!

One thing i love about going back home to where my family lives is the abundant sage that grows throughout the land. We recently took a walk into the hills and harvested some of this years medicine.

My tools: a good knife, handmade willow basket for the cuttings and of course, a little bag of offerings as i always try and give back to the land.

Made this beautiful Raw Pumpkin Pie for our family! Love in all directions and a special aloha to our native family here on the red earth... bountiful blessings!

CRUST:
1 1/2 C pecans, almonds or mac nuts: raw and unroasted
4 oz date paste
1/8 tsp salt
1 tbls vanilla
2 oz cacao powder: optional
1/3 C cacao nibs: optional
place all ingredients in a food processor, coconut oil up a cheesecake pan and add ingredients spreading evenly on the bottom and sides of pan!

FILLING:
2 C soaked cashews
1 C bananas
3 C raw shredded butternut squash
2 tbls lemon juice
1/2 C agave, honey or coconut sugar make into liquid form
2 tbls vanilla
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
1/8 tsp salt
1C almond milk or of course, breast milk if you have it!
3 tbls lecithin
1C coconut oil
place all ingredients except lecithin and coconut oil in a blender (vitamix works best). Blend for 3 mins and then add lecithin and coconut oil and blend for another 2 mins. Pour into cake pan and freeze for 3 hours. Place in fridge for a bit and enjoy!!!! for swirls, reserve 3/4 cup of filling and add 1/8 C cacao powder. pour on top and swirl in with chopsticks!!

We are now in the heart of America... Lawrence Kansas! Agustins family is from here... what a sweet little town! We performed a flower ceremony for his sisters wedding which was so beautiful. Agustin played the flute and I blessed the couple with a ton of flowers! I will post photos soon. Grandma Jane is here and is 97 years old! She was busting moves on the dance floor like i have never seen before! AMAZING WOMAN! Beautiful wedding. We will venture to Boulder Colorado after this. Feels good to be roaming about exploring the mainland a bit.

Giving back to the Earth. What does this mean? The mayans from Guatetemala and many other indiginous around the world give back before they allow themselves to receive again. This often means bringing all of their belongings to the fire and throwing them in. Practicing the art of non-attachment. The Q'eros of Peru make offerings of Cocoa leaves to the Pacha Mama several times a day. All in a ceremonial fashion. Why is it that here in the Western World, we take and take and take from the Mama and never give back? The Indiginous who live so simply are our brightest teachers! Agustin and I have tried to make it habit to make ceremonial offerings as much as we can. We are about to transition and start traveling again so we figured this was a good time to let go!

First we find a space of land that speaks to us. We call in the four directions, opening up the circle. Shells and crystals are then placed forming a mandala. With each offering laid we say a prayer. A prayer for family, a prayer for the earth, a prayer for you, a prayer for me.

Next we lay paper over the mandala and begin with the flowers. We take each flower and hold it up offering thanks to the mountains, thanks to the winged ones, the four legged, sacred sites around the world, our loved ones and anything/one our hearts call to.

We then add different offerings of herbs around the flowers. Today we offered roses, corn, lavender, catnip, passion fruit, tobacco, sage, jasmine, calendula frankincense and a whole other nest of medicine.

Last, we fold the paper into a bundle and make a fire. We offer the bundle to the fire so that the smoke will then carry our prayers to Spirit. The mandala is left as our gift of gratitude.

Basket of love.

We close the circle, play some music and enjoy the warmth of the fire and the warmth of life. Aho!!

Spring water equals GOLD~

Another blessing Kauai has to offer is the hidden Spring at the end of the North Shore. Once every few weeks, the Family takes a drive and fills up 5 five gallon bottles. We cleanse our bodies, our crystals, our hearts.

Receiving water straight from the mountain is about the best gift we could receive. Its clean, pure and energized filled with the mana of the mama! These days, who knows where our water is coming from. There are local springs everywhere! More than you might imagine. Look into where you are living. Its worth it to take the drive and spend time at the spring!

~Always remember to leave an offering of some sort! This is a beautiful sacred hawaiian Blue Jade Lei i left as a gift of my gratitude.

*~Someone kindly set up a little faucet system at this particular spring where getting water is easy!

Love up your skin with herbs from the Mama!

Been making beautiful skin creams and masks. These two creations were from Rosemary Gladstars FAMILY HERBAL book. This is my herb bible! Tons of recipes for health and Beauty. Sending these little gifts out to my sea*stars on the mainland.

I used these ingredients for the cream. You can make your own version from the recipe in her book.... Cocoa butter, coconut oil, aloe vera leaf, beeswax, lanolin, mayan crystal infused spring water, vitamin e, apricot oil and a few drops of essential oils... rose geranium, lavender and chamomile.

The mask is amazing! Ingredients are Oats, purple corn, dried roses, lavender, spiralina and white clay...

Flower Ceremony with Tito La Rosa

Agustin, Naia and I sat in a traditional Peruvian flower Ceremony with Tito La Rosa on Sunday. Tito comes from Peru to Kauai once a year to do ceremony. Handed lovingly down from the Q’ero Nation of Peru, Tito La Rosa gives to us the legacy of the flower ceremony. Steeped in the tradition of Munay (The Power of Love) and invoking the Pachamama (Earth), he transforms the music from his ancient instruments into a healing medium. Tito entered into the plane of no time, where the power of love and healing also know no limits. Tito has been doing sound healing for over 30 years. The instruments he works with take you to another dimension. What a beautiful way to work with the flowers and songs of these gifts. The Ceremony was 5 hours long and we each were bathed in a shower of flowers all over our bodies. Community is Nature, Nature is Community...

The community we live on has been in full swing with so much food growing on the land. Jackie and I have been selling organic starts and Cacao, Noni and Durian trees at the local Farmers Market. Saturday we had a garage/plant/handmade sale that was so fun! Many friends and Family joined us. Tonight we showed "The Green Beautiful" on the projector for the Kilauea community. If you havent seen it, its a MUST!! (youtube). Join us every Sunday for Zero One movie night!! This is just a small part of why living in community is so amazing!! Also... there were many medicine ceremonies happening here on Kauai this weekend. I must have called in the Shipibo vibrations as i manifested two pieces of Shipibo art brought right to the land! The Peruvian Shipibo Indians: Masters of Ayahuasca
These woman spend many moons creating beautiful shipibo art.

There are many theories about the meaning of the unique intricate Shipibo geometric patterns. Many say this is the vision the vine gives to you during ceremony. Some consider it an ancient language form; others suggest that the patterns represent a mapping of the rivers of the Amazon. While
some may not be able to agree on the meaning, art lovers can appreciate the beautiful designs, the soft curves and the pristine yet original look of the Shipibo designs. Anyone who has drank a strong enough dose of ayahuasca probably knows exacty what this is!

Throughout my travels in Peru, ceremony was crucial! I fell in love with the shipibo art and woman. I now feel grateful to be able to weave the Northern Natives with the Southern Indians. These ceremonial medicine bags are available on my ETSY shop.

***** Update: Posting this back in April I had no idea that it would soon go viral. I have read some prettty amazing quotes that people have posted about the photo. The best were people thinking i was actually hanging from the tree!? I did love the "milk bong" quotes along with "good till the last drop" and one of my favorite "Mothers.... The ultimate multitaskers".

~ Much gratitude for your voices, whatever they may choose to express!!! There are many out there who dont understand the breastfeeding yoga photo. This is a great opportunity for us to practice compassion with others as we are all unique with different experiences and different realities!! : ) What a blessing! Thank you for being able to see the light in this and to share in the love of life, whatever it may bring!

~The truth is we were living on a small community in Hawaii where our land was clothing optional and yoga was/is a necessity! I was just doin’ my daily flow when the little sweet pea came to sneak a suckle. Papa had her out in the grass with him and she just couldn’t resist! This happens all the time by the way. When a breast is out and babies around, they are going to try and get it anyway they can! I have been blogging for years now and this photo was just a simple share of a beautiful captured moment. Aloha from the land of Sunrise Shells!
One of the main gifts this island has to offer is its beautiful shells! The most magical of them all is the legendary Sunrise shell! These are what we call HAWAIIAN BLING!

According to Hawaiian legend, these rare sunrise shells, were once considered sacred and were worn only by members of the royal family. Named "Sunrise" because they reflect the sun with their beautiful gold and pink colors.

The first time we arrived on the island i searched and searched for one of these beauties. I knew they were hard to find but little did i know the hours i would spend on the hunt! Amazingly, this last summer i met a man whom had a small collection of them. We worked out a trade and alas... here they are! Combined with precious stones and the mana of the island, this is my favorite work yet. Available on ESTY of course!

Aloha from Zero One... the land we have been living on the last year. We arrived in March and now one full year has passed. We have been blessed with our little child of the light... Naia Atia! What an amazing gift. She is bright light medicine in every way! Daughterofthesun.etsy.com is still going oh so strong! So many new jewels and so much Island Inspiration!! Its easy to be inspired here in Hawaii!
There are now 12 of us living on the land. A beautiful community of people in which we can grow and learn together. We are growing food, building sustainable structures but most of all reflecting off one another so that we can reprogram and become the best humans possible! Jackson who lives on the land has a great website www.superforest.org in which you can see the happenings here plus much more. He is great at keeping up to date with the newest adventures! Ahhh, what an amazing gift we have been blessed with!! Justin and I have a little sweet pea growin' in my belly!! We left New Zealand in March and headed back to Kauai where we will give birth at home with our Midwife Claudia Brown. She has caught over 10,000 babies and truly has a deep love for the new beings entering into our planet. Bright light Magic all around!!! I have been inspired by so many ETSY crafters making natural baby treasures!! I feel it is important to surround the baby with gifts from Mother Earth and the hands of sweet humans as opposed to machine made, synthetic products.

The summer sun is here!!! Ahhh, almost a year has passed and life keeps growing brighter and brighter everyday! I have been in New Zealand for the last nine months on a community called Karuna Falls. There are over 750 acres of wild bush, fruit orchard, waterfalls, spring water, solar power and the ocean at our feet! Truly Paradise!! We are staying in an amazing wooden hand made house with beautiful garden and view of the land! Wild birds singing us their sweet songs day and night. Lots of time to meditate and go deep within, healing our bodies of old patterns and programs. Simple living does wonders for the heart.

Still makin tons of jewelry and crafts but havent put much on ETSY as I'M not on the computer so much. My latest creations have been loom beading bracelets and anklets. Made a few deer skin pipe bags, a few purses and my favorite.... baskets!! Flax weaving, cat tail hats and wisteria baskets! So fun!!

Getting ready to cruise to the South Island where I hear we are about to have our minds blown! I can't begin to imagine what could be more beautiful then where we are now!! Learnin' to surf and taking our daily ocean baths is one thing I love about New Zealand. Clean water and chill surf vibes!! Ahhh, thank you Mama Earth for this opportunity to be nurtured by your love!

Two months on the beautiful island of Kauai...
The last few moons have been amazing living out of our van, sleeping on the beaches, eating wild foods galore... coconuts, avocados, citrus, everywhere we look! Drinking from the springs... free gifts from the earth mother. Ahhhh, and the RAINBOWS.... moon bows, fractal bows, double and triple, circular rainbows.... everywhere we turn!!! The flowers, the dolphins, the whales!!! Magic in every corner here in Lemuria. So blessed to have spent this time with the Aina. Planting crystals and making shell and flower mandalas... offerings to mama pacha! Have been connecting with all of my brothers and sister back on the mainland.... sending you loving vibrations from across the seashores. I love you so much!!!

With this cycle coming to its completion we just arrived in ~~**AOTEAROA**~~ NEW ZEALAND!! We will be on the north island for the first few months. We begin our journey with a ten day Vipassana meditation... http://www.medini.dhamma.org/ Buying a camper van to now call home.

All of the cultures around the world have been talking about this for many, many moons. Everyone is waking up!! Its such a beautiful time to be ALIVE!!! In this NOW, in the MOMENT.

Been workin' away up in Mendocino these last few months! I have been blessed with a beautiful cabin to stay in...

When I was in Idaho mid September at Rabbit Stick a friend of mine asked me where I wanted to live... my reply was "Where the rivers meet the sea". I had no idea I would be journeying to that exact place...

Found my new home somewhere along the Colombia Gorge! I was hitchhiking and ran into some beautiful souls whom have taken me in as their own! Spirit has placed me here and I am ever so grateful. My new family is a dream come true as he (name anonymous) is a leather worker and she (name anonymous) lives in her garden! They have been on the 22 acres for thirty years with no electricity... straight off the land. What a blessing...

Too many photos and stories to post so I will just add a few! I have been shooting a ton with my hasselblad but those photos will probably come this fall when I'M settled in. My travels have brought me to AZ, NM, CO, WY, ID and now Oregon where I have fallen in LOVE with this state! I will be staying on some land outside Hood River until the winter, when I will migrate down to a farm in Williams Oregon.

I have been invited to live on 60 acres of land, an hour outside Boulder Colorado. There is a teepee village with families living primitively on the land. The land has a huge lake, water well and weekly held Lakota sweats!! I will arrive in August and stay until it gets too cold for me live outdoors. Three or Four months I suppose? Maybe then I will make my way back to LA, maybe not...

I will be surviving mostly on my jewelry and will possibly be teaching kundalini yoga in Boulder one day a week. Please don't forget to say hello and visit my website and Etsy Store while I'm away! I will try and post updates and stories along the way!

I have spent the last 12 hours doing more Gypsy Wagon research. Just looking at stained glass windows, solar panels, vintage tiles, 12 volt appliances... its so fun! April is just around the corner so I have to start preparing. I also spoke with Sunny tonight and he gave me a lot of info... he has built 13 gypsy wagons!! Not much rain comes through these dry lands but when they do... Its like when the sun comes out in Seattle! Everyone gets bundled up as if its the coldest day of the year. This rain was especially welcoming as the crystals I set out were double energized. Not only by the rains but also by Grandmother Luna and her Tuesday fullness! This new moon has had some amazing happenings and I'm here to give thanks to not only her, but also to Father Sky for the beautiful love he has soaked our soils with.
